How we count

Counted, never typed.

Every figure here is counted from the shops' own repair records, by the same rules, and counted again when the records change.

One question, counted. Narrow it a filter at a time and the count follows the records.

What counts. One unit, the repair order. Not cars, not customers, not line items.

A repair order.

The work order a shop opens in Shop-Ware when a car comes in and closes when the work is done. It counts when the work was on a hybrid or EV part of the car. Oil changes, tires and routine maintenance are left out.

Counted once.

An order that covered work on two parts of the car is still one repair order. Each order is paired with its shop, because order numbers are only unique inside one shop's records.

Review.

Reports are drafted from the counts and wait in a review queue. Nothing publishes on its own: a person reads each one and approves it, and where that approval is on record the report names who reviewed it.

Corrections.

If a figure looks wrong, tell us the page and the number. We check it against the shop's records. Because every figure is a query, fixing the query corrects every page that uses it at once.

Questions about the numbers. The short answers, from the same rules.

Why count repair orders and not cars?

A repair order is the record of a job. One car can come in many times over the years, and each visit with work on a counted system is one more piece of evidence about what fails and what fixes it.

How current are the numbers?

The records sync every night. A page counts again from the latest sync when it is served and keeps that count for up to an hour. The latest sync is from October 2026.

Why is a shop missing from some reports?

A shop appears on a report only when its own records match it. A shop with no matching repair orders is left out, rather than shown as a zero.

Can a shop change its numbers?

Not by hand. The counts come straight from the shop's Shop-Ware records. If a shop corrects an order in Shop-Ware, the change reaches us with the next sync.

Can one shop's report copy another's?

No. Each shop's report on a topic is its own. Publishing stops one that names another shop, or that reads too much like another shop's report on the same topic.

Is any of this sample data?

No. Every figure comes from the shops' synced records. Where the records cannot be read, a page shows the last count it took, never sample numbers.
